SHOO SHOO BABY presents THE ENTIRE HISTORY OF CABARET
Assembly @ George Street, 6th – 16th August 2009, 16.50 hours, £9.50/£12.50

I love Cabaret shows, especially dark cabaret!  The dark humour is often very sexy which can have classy, sophisticated undertones of allure where women vocalists take centre stage with evocative songs.
Shoo Shoo Baby does have the elements of a good cabaret show but it seemed more of a slapstick comedy history of cabaret.  It was hard to take the history seriously as at times the humour and comedy got in way of the tunes.

It was an okay show, as far as cabaret goes, but I have to admit I did yawn at times, as I wasn’t as excited as I was the night before, when I saw Bal Masque, St George’s West, starring cabaret star Sam Chara.  What I am trying to say is once you have seen one cabaret show, you’ve seen them all. Cabaret has been done over and over again, and it runs its course for me, until someone special jumps out at me.

This production was a laugh at times, with great songs and sketches but if you are out to spot the next big cabaret star, go see Sam Chara, Bal Masque.
